The Directions

DIMENSIONS: 10 cm/4″ in height, 20 cm/8″ in diameter

BASE
The BASE of the basket (double crochet) is worked in joined rounds, this means that you will mark your first stitch and slip stitch to first sc to complete round.

To start: Make a magic ring
RND 1: 12 dc in ring, join with sl st.
RND 2: BLdc in each st (increase every stitch), join with sl st.
RND 3: *BLdc in next st, 2 BLdc in next st; rep from *all around (increase every stitch), join with sl st.
RND 4: *BLdc in next st, 2 BLdc in next st; rep from * all around
(increase every stitch), join with sl st.
RND 5: *BLdc in 2 sts, 2 BLdc in next st; rep from * all around
(increase every 3rd stitch), join with sl st.
RND 6: *BLdc in 3 sts, 2 BLdc in next st; rep from * all around
(increase every 4th stitch), join with sl st.
RND 7: *BLdc in 4 sts, 2 BLdc in next st; rep from * all around
(increase every 5th stitch), join with sl st.
RND8: slip stitch in the back loops only all the way around the circle.

BODY
We will now begin crocheting the BODY of the basket (single crochet), which will be worked in spiral, with unjoined rounds: so, instead of joining with a slip stitch, crochet the first stitch of round two into the top of the first stitch of round one. Here it’s important to use a stitch marker to keep track of the beginning of each round.

RND 9: To creates a thick base for the start of our crochet basket, we need to cover up the slip stitches. To do so, sc all around but inserting the hook into the gap under the slip stitch you created in the previous round. This will create a ridge that will give stability to your basket.

RND 10: BLsc all around
RND 11: BLsc all around
RND 12: BLsc all around
RND 13-21: sc all around
We make now the handles:
RND 22: 15sc, 20 ch, skip 22, slst, 28 sc, 20ch, skip 22, slst, 15sc.
RND 23: sc all around
To give a bit of internal bend, we now single crochet only in the back loops.
RND 24: BLsc all around
RND 25: BLsc all around
RND 26: BLsc all around
